Kensington House provided some unique opportunities to cater for its contemporary occupants. The brief was to alter the existing post war cottage to include open living areas to the rear and a first floor parent’s retreat, whilst giving the existing dwelling a much needed revamp to accommodate the owners young children both in the near and long term future. The design creates undercover entertaining spaces at the rear of the house and maximises northern light entering the living room. A window seat in the new first floor master bedroom frames views onto the existing tree in the backyard. The design sought to contrast the existing cottage, making a clear distinction between old and new.
