Lachlan Swamp Boardwalk – in progress

Centennial Park, Sydney

Sam Crawford Architects have been engaged to design a raised boardwalk for Lachlan Swamp within Centennial Park. The purpose of the new boardwalk through the swamp is to protect the health of the swamp’s ecology, provide a suitable platform for school groups and educational tours, become a sensitive addition to the parklands as well as supporting signage and other interpretive elements when visiting the swamp.

Lachlan Swamp is an ecologically diverse and important example of Australian landscape and wildlife. Among ferns, grasses, lilies, palms and bracken, the swamp is predominantly populated with paperbark trees which support a resident bat colony. The boardwalk intends to improve public accessibility on the site in order to greater promote a greater understanding of its importance and a broadening appreciation of the site and environmental systems.

This project is currently in design development.
