Scotland Island Retreat – in progress

Scotland Island, NSW

The design aims to capitalise on the stunning views of the island whilst being sensitive to the ecology, community, and the endangered Pittwater Spotted Gum Forest. The series of stepping volumes is informed by the steep topography of the constrained site, and by raising the building on stilts, excavation and disturbance to the sensitive site will be minimal. Charred timber boards cladding the house respond to the site’s lush and dense vegetation. Bedrooms on the lower level with living spaces above have been designed to frame key views to both the water and the abundant trees surrounding the house.
