Building and construction are responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions globally. Operational emissions (from energy used to heat, cool and our light buildings) account for 28% of global carbon emissions. The remaining 11% comes from embodied carbon emissions generated by construction.
Sam Crawford Architects attained certified Net Carbon Neutral operations in 2020. That is a small step. By 2030, we plan to make the construction of all of our projects certified Net Carbon Neutral. We will also ask that our clients commit to operating those buildings as 100% Net Carbon Neutral.
How are we going to do this? We will find out as we do it.
