Feasibility Study into Animal Holding in the Greater Western Sydney Area
2018 Wawarawarry Country / Blacktown, NSW
This study of animal holding facilities in the Greater Western Sydney Area was commissioned by the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils Ltd (WSROC) and prepared by Sam Crawford Architects in collaboration with veterinarian Dr Renae Jackson.
The scope of the study was to look at potential long term sustainable animal holding solutions over the next 20 years including infrastructure and non-infrastructure based solutions.
The study was structured into three sections: fact finding, benchmarking and recommendations.
To understand the current and future context of animal holding within the Greater Western Sydney Area a detailed analysis of the existing animal holding regulations, policies, numbers, arrangements and facilities was undertaken. The future context included an analysis of future regulatory context, planned facilities and future demands around animal ownership, population and demographics.
Benchmarking outlined a standard for ‘best practice’ animal holding for both infrastructure and non-infrastructure based solutions.
Practical recommendations gave councils clear recommendations on how to achieve a long term sustainable solutions for animal holding in their area.
