Congratulations to our Graduate Architect, Illiana Jones, whose research has been published in IndesignLive.
Illiana's article draws on her Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship, which took her across the UK, Egypt and France to study how public buildings can better support autistic and neurodivergent visitors. It's a subject she traces back to her early work in after-school care, and to Quiet Spaces: calm, low-stimulation areas where someone experiencing sensory overload can retreat and reset.
From football stadiums to major museums, her article looks at how some of the world's best-known public spaces are designing for sensory needs, and what the rest of the built environment can learn from them.

We're thrilled to have Illiana bring this knowledge back to the practice. Her research is already informing projects like the Camden Animal Shelter and Nursery, an exciting step towards more neurodivergent-inclusive design, and we look forward to seeing these principles continue to shape SCA's approach.
