Illiana Jones awarded a 2025 Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship

We congratulate Illiana Jones, Architectural Assistant at Sam Crawford Architects in Sydney, on winning the Student Category of the 2025 Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded by the NSW Architects Registration Board. Australia's largest and longest-running scholarship of its type, the award provides funding between $15,000-$30,000 for research travel.

Her chosen research project is ‘Designing for The Spectrum: Guidelines for Autism-Inclusive Public Spaces’. In 2026 she will look at how architectural design can better support Autistic people in public environments. By studying exemplary case studies across Egypt, Ireland and the United Kingdom, her research will investigate spatial and sensory strategies that enhance comfort and accessibility. The project will produce a practical set of guidelines to help designers create inclusive, autism-friendly public spaces.

Illiana joins three successful Graduate applicants. Read the NSW Architects Registration Board announcement.
