Willowdale Sports Pavilion receives Commendation at 2026 NSW Architecture Awards

Willowdale Sports Pavilion, designed with Lymesmith, received a Commendation in the Public Architecture category at the Australian Institute of Architects' 2026 NSW Architecture Awards, having also been shortlisted for the COLORBOND® Award for Steel Architecture.

Jury Citation: “Willowdale Sports Pavilion resists the conventions of its type. Grounded in archaeological evidence of indigenous clay ovens discovered on the site, the project draws a deliberate line between deep time and a new suburban community."

"The V-shaped plan establishes a generous spatial relationship with adjacent playing fields. Broad verandas, articulated roof forms and patterned brickwork with integrated artwork, produce a building that is robust yet open, utilitarian yet civic.
