Gunnamatta Pavilion Renewal

ONGOING / Cronulla, NSW

A significant upgrade to this 1930s heritage-listed pavilion celebrates the original fabric of the building, strips back unsympathetic additions, and delivers an array of active and vibrant spaces for the local community.

Heritage Spaces Reimagined

Altered interiors are thoughtfully reorganised for contemporary use.

Sited on the western shoreline of Gunnamatta Park, with direct connection to Cronulla Station, Cronulla Wharf and Tonkin Oval, this significant example of an inter-war bathers pavilion featured alterations and additions that diminish the heritage features and a disconnected network of internal spaces and amenity.

New life and activity is injected into the building – hireable activity spaces, sports club spaces, a catering kitchen, public amenities, and a commercial cafe/restaurant and back of house.

Organised efficiently around the floor plan the commercial cafe/restaurant is located adjacent to the foreshore, optimising water views, whilst the back of house and services are located with convenient access to the public footpath. Internal courtyard spaces provide a seamless indoor / outdoor flow for the activity spaces. Fully accessible pathways and improved public amenities embed this building into the lifestyles of the local community.
